Senior consultant – Radiation oncology
Dr Vivek Bansal is Senior consultant- Department of Radiation Oncology. He has post graduated from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and has done his M.D., DNB in Radiation Oncology in1992. He moved to PD Hinduja Hospital Mumbai in 1996 and was instrumental in starting India’s first 3D Conformal treatments there. He treated brain tumour patients with Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) treatments using India’s first Gamma knife there with Experienced Neurosurgery team both for benign and malignant tumours.
He later shifted to Goraj near Vadodara (Gujarat) in 2000 as head of the department and started country’s one of the most ultramodern department including Intensity Modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and Integrated Brachytherapy Unit (IBU) & has treated more than 3000 complex patients of different sites there.
He is now with us Apollo CBCC Cancer Care Hospital as Sr. Consultant Radiation Oncology

Accomplishment
- He starts India’s first 3D Conformal treatments with Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) treatments using India’s first Gamma knife
- He started country’s one of the most ultramodern department including Intensity Modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and Integrated Brachytherapy Unit (IBU)
- He has been the force to start South Asia’s first Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) at Apollo CBCC when he shifted to APNU AMDVAD in 2006. IGRT with daily imaging before treatment on Linear Accelerator adds an extra dimension of precision and accuracy thereby improving outcomes and reducing toxicity.
- He was the first to present his Indian data on IGRT at Malta, Europe. Extensively trained abroad he has many presentations as invited speaker and expert panellist in conferences and CME.
- He later has to his credit treating patients by SBRT the newest technique to complete treatments in one day to one week instead of 6 weeks.
- He has been a post graduate Teacher and has been mentor to many Radiation Oncologists in the country. Apart from treating thousands of patients till now with all of the above techniques he has stood for Quality treatment which is his passion.
- He achieved a Luminary award in the field of Radiation oncology in the whole Gujarat by DIVYABHASKAR Group in 2018.
- He has many papers and publications to his credit and also has written a chapter for a textbook on GI Cancers.
