Radiation Therapy is one of the most effective modalities for the majority of cancers. It is estimated that radiation therapy is directly responsible for at least 40% of all cancer patients surviving beyond five years. Technical, academic and clinical advances in radiation therapy have improved patient management and outcomes very significantly.
The development of more sophisticated approaches to radiotherapy treatment have been made possible by improvements in radiological imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), computerized 3-dimensional, ”inverse” treatment planning, patient positioning , and more sophisticated linear accelerator technology.
Radiation Oncology Unit at Apollo CBCC Cancer Care is equipped with 2 Linear Accelerators to deliver the precise external beam radiation therapy treatments to our patients. We also have a Brachytherapy unit to deliver internal radiation therapies.
Apart from conventional 2-Dimensional and conformal 3-Dimensional Radiation Therapy, we are equipped to deliver various treatments listed below at our Radiation Oncology Unit:
- Brachytherapy
It is commonly used as an effective treatment for cervical, prostate, breast, and skin cancer and can also be used to treat tumors in many other body sites.
- IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy)
IGRT is used by highly trained radiation oncologists, which involves process of frequent two and three-dimensional imaging, during a course of radiation treatment, used to direct radiation therapy utilizing the imaging coordinates.
- IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy)
IMRT is an advanced type of high-precision radiation that improves the ability to conform the treatment volume to concave tumor shapes.
- Rapid Arc
Rapid Arc radiotherapy technology is a new approach to image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IGRT/IMRT) that delivers precise treatments in shorter times than conventional IMRT. Rapid Arc delivers a highly precise treatment much faster than other technologies.
